Copyediting is done at the sentence level and is mostly concerned with mechanics.

• Adhere to house style or specified style guide and chosen dictionary

• Check for clear language

• Ensure consistency and correct use of spelling, grammar, word choice, capitalization, hyphenation, abbreviation, punctuation, cross-references, italics, lists, tables, footnotes/endnotes, front/back matter 

• Check for typos, wordiness, confusion, and info-dumping

• Check that your table of contents matches chapters

• Create a style sheet (upon request)

• Flag factual errors, and verify facts (upon request)

• Flag inconsistencies
