Copyediting is done at the sentence level and is mostly concerned with mechanics. 

• Adhere to requested style guide and dictionary

• Check for clear language

• Check for typos, wordiness, confusion, and info-dumping

• Create a style sheet (upon request)

• Ensure consistency and logical / correct use of abbreviations, capitalization, cross-references, front / back matter, grammar, hyphenation, italics, lists, punctuation, spacing, spelling, syntax, tables, word choices

• Flag factual errors, and verify facts (upon request)

• Flag any other noted inconsistencies in the timelines, setting, character idiosyncrasies

 

NOTE: Copyediting may be combined with line editing when it serves the manuscript's needs.
